Mindfulness Monday: Mindful Coloring

Today’s Mindfulness Monday activity is mindful coloring. This is always a popular activity with my students. Since tomorrow is Halloween, I gave them a coloring page of a haunted house. Participation was high in all of my classes today and I think it may have something to do with how coloring makes students feel about school. I think it reminds them of a less stressful time when learning felt fun and socialization was encouraged. I try to use Mindfulness Monday as an opportunity to have them loosen up a bit and focus on the moment instead of all the other pressure teenagers have on their minds. I always have coloring pages available for students to grab as needed. I even grab them myself when I am feeling dysregulated.

Have you ever tried mindful coloring in your classroom?
