Mindfulness Monday: Mindful Card Activity

Here is a mindful card activity you can try with your class.

What you’ll need:

-Deck of cards (or image)

-Paper or journals

-Pen or pencil

Hold up the deck of cards.

Explain:

“This deck represents the next stretch of your life—this semester, this year, or the next few months. Each card is a day. You don’t control the shuffle, but you do control how you play your cards.”

Suit Meanings (Goal Lens):

-Hearts – relationships, self-care, emotional well-being

-Diamonds – academics, achievements, effort, responsibility

-Clubs – challenges, stress, habits you want to strengthen

-Spades – rest, focus, boundaries, mental health

Ask students to reflect silently.

Prompt:

“If you could intentionally ‘play’ one suit more mindfully this year, which would it be—and why?”

Then connect suit → goal:

-Heart Goal: How do I want to treat myself or others differently?

-Diamond Goal: What academic or personal goal matters most right now?

-Club Goal: What challenge do I want to respond to differently?

-Spade Goal: Where do I need more balance, rest, or boundaries?

Students write one main goal connected to their chosen suit.
