Mindfulness Monday is when I highlight a particular mindfulness activity with my class. I’ve been doing it for the past three yeas and I have received a lot of positive feedback from students. I decided start blogging about them to share ideas with other teachers and hopefully receive useful feedback.
Today’s activity is creating a vision board. Creating a vision board is an exercise that involves creating a visual representation of your goals and aspirations, focusing solely on what you want to manifest in your own life.
I provided my students with a blank sheet of paper, magazines, scissors and glue sticks. By creating a vision board, my students are visually reminding themselves of their own unique path and the direction they want to go in.
The science behind this activity is that students are activating the reticular activating system (RAS) which is the part of the brain that decides what is relevant to us. When students engage in this activity, and place the finished product in a spot that is always visible, they are telling their subconscious what they desire to bring into their lives. I remind my students avoid overthinking the activity and just be guided by their intuition.
Have you ever made a vision board of your own or used it as an activity in your classroom?
